Blog post assignment 4 : Wild quotations
“Alone had always felt like an actual place to me, as if it weren’t a state of being, but rather a room where I could retreat to be who I really was.”
1. Does the quotation relate to a theme? If so, which theme and how does it relate? Yes this quote relates to theme because, one of the themes of Wild is loneliness and being alone. Throughout the whole story, Cheryl describes how she feels alone in various was. Even though Cheryl craved for the feeling of someone by her side, in the inside she wants and needs to be alone.
2. Does the quotation characterize Cheryl, Paul, her mother, or any other character? If so, in what ways does it characterize? This quotation characterizes Cheryl. I say this because in the story, she clearly stated that she feels alone. Cheryl felt alone even when she had someone by her side. Despite the fact Cheryl's mother was never visited by anyone beside her husband and Cheryl, she never said she felt alone. Nor did Paul.
