Letter to Ralph Ellison

Dear Mr.Ellison,

Believe it or not, your novel Invisible Man is one of the most informative and relevant novels ever written. One could say it is especially relevant in today’s society because it not only informs the reader on racial issues during that time era, but it gives the reader insight of an actual African American’s feelings and thoughts. The topics you touched within you award winning book such as prejudice and stereotypes still exist today. In today’s society of 2018, people of all races are still being put into a stereotypical categories, especially African Americans. In the book the character Trueblood brings shame to African Americans by having a sexual encounter with his own daughter. The idea of “shaming” African Americans is still very much alive, however in today’s society it solely revolves around killing one another. One mans actions can effect the entire race. The stereotypes towards African Americans have worsened since you’ve published your book. African Americans are labeled as “gangsters”, ghetto, and etc. In conclusion, your book is relevant in today’s society for multiple reasons. Thus, so far this is an excellent book and I would definitely recommend it.

         With love,

                       Maurice Mitchell
